Urgent Prayer Requests

Three people that are heavy on my heart are:

Thomas D. Arthur is scheduled to be executed in Alabama on July 31. Thomas and I have exchanged letters. His letters express a great deal of anger against Christianity and Christians in general. I think the Holy Spirit is convicting Mr. Arthur of his sin. He resists facing that he is a sinful man, as we all are, and needs to surrender his life and sin to Jesus Christ. Please pray for salvation for Thomas Arthur.

Jesse James Cummins, Jr., is scheduled to be executed in Oklahoma on September 25. Jesse and I have exchanged many letters. I have learned a great deal about Jesse over the past two years and find myself saddened as his execution date approaches. My sadness is not because Jesse is not saved because Jesse surrendered his life to the Lord before he was convicted of a murder that he claims he did not commit. I don’t know if Jesse committed the murder. I know that I have doubts. I urge you to pray that God reveals the truth about Jesse’s innocence before he is executed.

John Spirko had his death penalty commuted to life because the former Republican Governor Taft and current Democratic Governor Strickland had serious doubts about John committing the murder for which he was convicted. The short hand of this situation is this, the Ohio State Police say that John was in North Carolina at the time the murder was committed for which John was convicted. The United States Postal inspector’s office, the folks handling the case, disagrees. The procedural mess regarding a Federal Agency prosecuting in a state court and getting a state conviction is mind-boggling. The bottom line in John’s case is that two governors would not sign his death warrant because they felt strongly that the case was mishandled. I urge you to pray that the truth be revealed because it is wrong for an innocent man to be incarcerated or executed for a crime he did not commit.
