AUGUST 2010
Dear Friend,
Letter from Sidney Cornwell:
Rodney, 6/29/2010
First. I want to apologize for the delay to your letter. I wanted to let you know that I am thankful for your time and prayer’s brother. At this present time sir, I do have my plate full, and time is so precious right now. But be encouraged that I am convinced and persuaded, completely, whole heartedly standing on the promises of our most High Father, and our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ for I am so grateful for the peace that I have that goes beyond human understanding. The peace Jesus speaks of (John 14:27). I have that, along with a perfect love that cast out all fear or doubt.
Brother, I ask for a specific prayer request. I am to meet with victim’s family and I’m going to do the best I can to give them the closure they’re looking for. Pray for them, my family and myself. That we may all have closure … Thanks for what you do, and keep the good fight.
Sincerely in Christ,
Sid
Sidney sent us the most beautiful hand painted thank you note. It is a green card, with the words thank you painted in black, three beautiful blooming daises in white brown and yellow, attached to the plant which is a darker green than the card shaded in white. He is a very good artist. This is the entire letter he sent me. In fact it is the only letter I have every received from Sid. Murder cannot be fixed and he is taking the only steps he can to help the people he harmed.
Sidney is scheduled to be executed November 16.
A Federal Court has ruled that the death row facility at the Mississippi State Penitentiary is unfit for human habitation and ordered the problems encountered corrected immediately. At this writing it is my understanding that Mississippi’s immediate plan is the take the men to different prisons throughout the state of Mississippi. The plan as I understand it is to have the move completed by September 1. I am unsure what Mississippi plans to do after relocating the current death row population.
Many of the inmates will not want to move because they have been in their current cells for over 15 years and they are content. It is believed that many inmates on Mississippi’s death row suffer various forms of mental illness which the Mississippi State Penitentiary at Parchman Mississippi is equipped to handle. This move is not merely changing an inmate cell it is moving a highly specialized prison operation. Please pray for the inmates and the prison officials as they commence compliance with the court order.
The Christmas Card Outreach is underway. The citizens of the City of New Orleans experienced the love of Christians from all across our land helping them restore their lives and community after hurricane Katrina devastated their lives and community. Christian love led the way for New Orleans to experience restoration. A mere five years after Katrina destroyed this community the Christian community of New Orleans is participating in restoration in many ways across their city, their state, their nation and the world. One expression of restoration that is particularly dear to the Forgiveness Foundation is drawing, addressing and inscribing The Forgiveness Foundation Christmas cards this year. Every Christmas card will be drawn, addressed and inscribed, sharing restoration through Jesus Christ, in New Orleans. Please pray for our artists and drafters as they prepare the Christmas cards and envelops for mailing. Pray that the love they have for our Lord and Savior is expressed through the card and shared with the recipient.
The Christmas Card Outreach still needs $791.00 to fully fund the 2010 outreach. Prayerfully consider a gift of any sized to help us get a Christmas card to every man and woman on death row.
