DAY 6: Good Friday

It was late and Jesus was still praying at the Garden of Gethsemane. Jesus sought His Father’s will in the event that was about to unfold. His disciples couldn’t stay awake. While speaking to His sleepy disciples, a large, armed crowd arrived, sent by the chief priests, and led by Judas Iscariot. Judas stepped forward and kissed Jesus, the kiss of a betrayer, yet Jesus called Judas friend. Jesus is seized and taken to be questioned by the Sanhedrin. (Matthew 26:47-56)

Jesus was taken before the Caiaphas, the chief priests, and the whole Sanhedrin, who sought false evidence to convict Jesus of crime punishable by death. Jesus was condemned to die for blasphemy from a court that had no authority to execute in the Roman Empire. (Matthew 26:57-67)

Peter disowns Jesus the first time. (Matthew 26:68-75)

Judas Iscariot, overcome with grief, committed suicide by hanging himself. (Mathew 27:1-10)

The Sanhedrin has Jesus bound so He could be taken to Pilate, the Roman governor of the region, so that Pilate may execute Jesus. (Matthew 27:1-26)

Pontius Pilate failed to find Jesus guilty of any crime but feared for his position, so he decided to appease the Jewish leaders, and ordered Jesus to be crucified. (Matthew: 27:11-26)

Jesus was mocked by the Roman soldiers who prepared Jesus for crucifixion. (Matthew 27:27-31)

Jesus is crucified. (Matthew 27:32-44)

Jesus died. (Matthew 27:50)

50And when Jesus had cried out again in a loud voice, he gave up his spirit. 51At that moment the curtain of the temple was torn in two from top to bottom. The earth shook, the rocks split 52and the tombs broke open. The bodies of many holy people who had died were raised to life. 53They came out of the tombs after Jesus’ resurrection and went into the holy city and appeared to many people. (Matthew 27:50-53)

The moment the curtain split in the temple Jesus, not priests, rabbis, or preachers, Jesus became our intercessor with God. Jesus is our direct line, our life line, to God. Our relationship with God is personal.

Jesus was buried in accordance with Jewish custom. (Matthew 27:57-61)

Roman guards assigned to Jesus’ tomb to assure His disciples do not steal His body. (Matthew 27:62-66)

Friday, Good Friday, the sixth day has ended. A new beginning…to be continued.
