Robin Myers, Alabama

Update: Monday, June 8, 2015 10:39 am EDT

Robin Dee Myers' execution was scheduled to occur at 6 pm CDT, on Thursday, June 18, 2015, at the Holeman Correctional Facility in Atmore, Alabama. Robin’s execution has been stayed. Fifty-three-year-old Robin has been convicted of the 1991, murder Ludie Mae Tucker in Decatur, Alabama. Robin has spent the last 10 years on Alabama’s death row.

The execution of Robin has been stayed, along with all executions in Alabama, pending the decision of the Supreme Court of the United States on case brought before them by Oklahoma death row inmates, regarding the legality of using midazolam in executions. Alabama’s lethal injection protocol calls for the use of midazolam in its executions. Several executions which used midazolam were prolonged. Some witnesses to the executions claimed the inmates appeared to suffer, although other witnesses dispute these claims.

During his trial, evidence was presented which showed that Robin loved his children and did not have a reputation for violence. Robin was had a substance abuse problem with crack cocaine.

In 1991, during the middle of the night, Robin Myers broke into the home of Ludie Mae Tucker, an elderly neighbor. Myers stabbed Ludie and then ran into a bedroom where a houseguest, Marie Dutton was staying. Myers proceeded to also stab Marie. Myers stole a videocassette recorder before leaving the house. Marie survived her injuries, however, Ludie died from her injuries.

Myers went on to trade the videocassette recorder for crack cocaine. When police confronted Myers, he claimed that he had found the videocassette recorder behind some bushes. He also denied stabbing Ludie or Marie.

Myers was convicted by a jury for murder. The jury recommended a sentence of life without the possibility of parole, however a trial rejected the jury’s recommendation and sentenced Myers to death.

Please pray for peace for the family of Ludie Mae Tucker. Please pray for peace and healing for Marie Dutton. Please pray for strength for the family of Robin Myers. Please pray that if Robin is innocent or lacks the mental competency to be executed, evidence will be presented prior to his execution. Please pray that Robin may come to find peace through a personal relationship with Jesus Christ, if he has not already found one.
